Turkish Delight Volume 14: The Greeks Are Back In Town

One of Steve’s best friends, Nikos from Chania, Greece, came to town with some of his buddies to attend the Motorcycle Grand Prix. I conceded my attendance mainly because I wanted to have an opportunity to hang out with Nikos and get to know Steve’s good friend better.

The Greeks and the Turks have an *ahem* strained relationship, to put it very mildly. This has to do with war and territory and things that happened so long ago they really don’t make a whole lot of sense to me but anyway, both sides still take all of that very personally.

I don’t remember much about the MotoGP other than it was very windy, very cold, and so loud I could actually feel the hairs in my ear chamber withering up and dying. Horrible. I saw Valentino Rossi on his bike. Some Canadian 20-year-old kid won. I think. What I remember the best about the time was hanging out with the very cool Nikos, and the mutterings of one of his friends about how “These people used to be our slaves!” Wow.

Now, that’s something hard to forget!
