Your death comes in the wake of many other wonderful people, and yet I feel more saddened by yours than any of them. I’m almost surprised by all of the emotions your passing has evoked in me. I’m not sure if it’s because my grandmother also passed away from pancreatic cancer. I think that is certainly part of it. But more so I feel the amazing art you created is the reason for the loss and emptiness I have felt since I heard you finally crossed over.
“Dirty Dancing” is iconic, as is your performance. I have thousands of memories watching it, dancing to the music, loving your style with so many other loved ones. “Ghost,” the same, so many memories watching that film! “To Wong Foo,” you were so gorgeous and surprising. “Donnie Darko,” you were magnificent and as always did the unexpected. Yet you never got caught up in Hollywood nonsense. You always kept it real, and I admired that among all else.
I will never forget you. In your honour I will dance. I’m sure you’ll be dancing in heaven, and I will remember you like that. My love to you, your wife, and your family. I’m so glad they could be with you when you died and I hope you passed on your amazing gifts to them in the process.
