I’m so sorry to hear about your friends, how awful and ungodly. It’s always the worst when people are taken before their time by assholes who could care less. What a void it leaves in our hearts and the world.

I like what you say about forgiving ourselves for being human. I think that sums it all up: that we may aspire to be more and be better people, sometimes we are able and sometimes not. It’s so important to remember that in those times we are unable, we just need to give ourselves a break. Certainly it’s something I could do more of.

I know that is always the goal, and that holding onto resentment and bad feelings harms us as well, but there are a few people I can never forgive, either…who were also responsible for ending the lives of some very close friends (drunk drivers…my friends were sober. One wasn’t even in a car.)

In the end, we do the best we can. We’re only human. Perhaps it’s even more important to forgive ourselves for that.
