Chapter 3: The Secret Life of Stone

On the days that the weather is fine
The Old Man goes to the river and throws out his line.
The swans and ducks they give him wide berth:
The Beast in the river has marked him with mirth.
Under the water It waits patiently
A toe over the edge, devoured one two three.
Step back, Old Man, or get you It will;
You, Old Man, are marked for the kill.
