Halloweenathon 2023: ‘Lamb’ (2022) Is a Wild Installment of Modern Folk Horror from A24

On the nineteenth day of Halloween: LAMB (2021)

When Maria (Noomi Rapace) and Ingmar (Hilmir Snær Guðnason) find an unusual child on their remote sheep farm in Iceland, they keep her and raise her as their own. But such a special child as this ends up unraveling the simple fabric of their farmer lives.

My biggest criticism of A24 films as a whole is they often end on an ambiguous note that actually reads as unfinished, rather than an open ending. But not in Lamb. We find out exactly where little Ada comes from, and so much more.

Lamb is a fabulous installment of modern folk horror. And the sheep are amazing performers. I’m not kidding. These sheep have characters and development in a way I’ve never seen on screen. It’s weird and wonderful.

✨World Cup/5 Stars. Highly recommend leaving the old gods alone.✨
